Facts

A riot occurred on Nov. 29 and Nov. 30, 2005 at Lakewood High School between Hispanic and African-American students. Police officer Rebecca Cocova arrested Student 1 and Student 2 after observing them throw food at other students.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
The plaintiffs asserted that they were discriminated against due to their alleged involvement in a "race-riot." Further, officers did not arrest other participants and the school made no other suspensions.

Result

A settlement of $54,500 was reached between plaintiffs and the Long Beach Unified School District defendants. Plaintiffs dismissed County defendants for a waiver of costs while County defendants' motion for summary judgment was pending. County defendants maintained in their summary judgment, and continue to maintain, that there was no merit to the claims against them.
