Facts

Senior deputy sheriff Chinli Ma was in his vehicle with Evan Poon at a stop sign at the intersection when they were rear-ended by a vehicle operated by Michael O'Shea. Ma and Poon sued O'Shea for motor vehicle negligence. Poon settled prior to trial. O'Shea conceded he was negligent.

Damages

Ma sought $3,195 in damages for medical expenses and $21,133.35 for lost wages. O'Shea disputed Ma's claims for damages.

Injuries

Ma suffered from cervical and lumbar sprains and strains and was unable to return to his duties for seven weeks.

Result

The jury rendered a verdict in favor of Ma and awarded him $7,808.23 in damages, which included $3,340 for past medical expenses and $3,718 for past lost earnings.
