On June 22, 2005, plaintiff Whitney McVay, an 18-year-old student, was riding in a sport utility vehicle on the I-405 in Los Angeles County, when it came to a sudden stop during heavy traffic and was rear-ended by a box truck driven by defendant Winston Reynolds. Plaintiff sued defendant for motor vehicle negligence.
The defendant admitted liability and the case proceeded on damages.
