Facts

Five former City of Bell council members, including Teresa Jacobo, George Cole, George Mirabal, Victor Bello, and Oscar Hernandez sued Best, Best & Krieger and Edward Lee, in connection with their legal representation.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs accused defendants of professional malpractice in connection with defendants' representation of them during plaintiffs' corruption trial. Plaintiffs were accused of misappropriating public funds. Plaintiff alleged that Best, Best & Krieger and its former partner, Lee, failed to inform them that what they were doing was illegal, which eventually led to several Bell officials being put behind bars.

DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
Defendants sought to dismiss the complaint for lack of specificity. Defendants also sought to dismiss it as time-barred.

Result

The court agreed and dismissed the claims because plaintiffs' claims were not specific enough. The court granted plaintiffs leave to amend their complaint.
