Facts

Molly Martin and Lauren Barry filed a class action against Cargill Inc. Denise Howerton, Erin Calderon, and Ruth Pasarell filed a similar class action against Cargill. The cases were later consolidated. The matter related to Cargill's labeling of its Truvia products.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs alleged that they purchased a Truvia product and was deceived by statements on the labels describing the products as "natural" when the products were not natural and contained highly processed ingredients and/or derived from genetically modified organisms. As a result, plaintiff claimed the product descriptions were inaccurate or misleading, and that defendant was unjustly enriched from labeling its products as such.

Result

The parties reached a settlement valued at $5 million that Cargill will either pay in cash or vouchers that could be redeemed for any eligible product.
