The plaintiff underwent a total left knee arthroplasty on Sep. 3, 2002 performed by the defendant, Dr. John Nelligan, a board certified orthopedic surgeon. The plaintiff underwent a revision procedure performed by Dr. Nelligan on Oct. 16, 2004 to correct excessive valgus alignment. Postoperatively, the plaintiff developed an infection which led to a further knee replacement at Stanford and lengthy hospitalization.
