Case number: 330 M.D. 2012 Bench Decision –  Injunction Granted

Facts

Local election officials in Pennsylvania sought to require voters to have photo identification (ID) in order to vote in the November election. The plaintiffs challenged the new state law, seeking an injunction to prevent its implementation.

Result

The Court was not convinced that there would be no voter disenfranchisement if the voter identification requirements were implemented. As a result, while Pennsylvania voters could be asked to show state-approved ID at the polls, they would still be able to vote even if they did not show ID.
