Nicola Covillo, Troyreac Henry, and John Chisholm filed a class action against Specialty's Cafe and Bakery Inc. Plaintiffs were all hourly workers at Specialty's, who worked as team lead, customer service associate, and delivery driver.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs asserted that Specialty's violated the California Labor Code and California's Unfair Competition Law. They did so by failing to pay minimum wage and overtime, failing to pay wages upon termination, failing to provide accurate pay stubs, failing to maintain accurate payroll time records, failing to provide rest periods, failing to provide medal periods, improper wage deductions, failing to reimburse business expenses, and other unfair business practices.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Specialty's denied plaintiff's allegations.
Result
The parties settled for $2 million.
