On Aug. 8, 2007, Monika Poxon was stopped on a red light at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Russell St. when she was rear-ended by a vehicle operated by Warren Dotz. Poxon sued Dotz alleging motor vehicle negligence. Dotz admitted liability.

Plaintiff contended that defendant was speeding and inattentive.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant asserted various affirmative defenses. Further, defendant contended that plaintiff was careless and negligent, and that her own carelessness and negligence contributed to the incident.
Result
The jury found Dotz's negligence was a substantial factor in causing Poxin's harm, and awarded Poxon $17,665 in total damages, which included $6,665 in past medical expenses; $3,500 in past lost income; and $7,500 in past non-economic loss.
