Facts

WaterWatch of Oregon filed a lawsuit seeking the removal of the Savage Rapids Dam, which was built in 1921 by the Grants Pass Irrigation District, on Oregon's Rogue River.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff contended that removal of the dam would free up access to 500 miles of habitat used by Rogue River salmon for spawning and rearing. Based on a 1994 Bureau of Reclamation study, plaintiffs asserted that the dam constituted a large threat to coho salmon.

Result

As a result of this lawsuit, defendant agreed to completely remove the dam.
