Contentions
COMPLAINANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Respondent allegedly misled consumers about protecting patient data. Respondent allegedly advertised that its product provided industry-standard encryption that complied with HIPAA, when it actually used a less complex method of protecting patient data.
RESPONDENT'S CONTENTIONS:
Respondent neither admitted nor denied the allegations.
Result
The parties entered into a consent agreement, in which Henry Schein agreed to not make those claims in the future and agreed to provide notice to affected consumers who purchased the product. Henry Schein was also required to pay FTC $250,000 as settlement.
