Facts

Plaintiff resided at a large apartment complex in Ventura County. On the date of the incident, plaintiff walked out of his apartment to take his dog, an English bulldog, for a walk on a leash. Shortly thereafter, when plaintiff was located in the common area of the apartment complex he and his dog were attacked by another dog, a Great Dane mix, owned by another tenant of the same complex.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff contended that defendant dog owner was liable to plaintiff based upon statute and general principles of negligence.

Injuries

Plaintiff claimed a scratch injury to his right calf. Plaintiff claimed post-traumatic stress disorder and that his scratch injury went on to complex regional pain syndrome.

Result

The parties agreed to a total settlement of $724.999. The defendant dog owner paid $99,999, and the apartment owner and management company paid an additional $625,000.
