US Airways Inc. sued Sabre Holdings Corp., Sabre GLBL Inc., and Sabre Travel International Ltd., involving allegations of Sabre's anticompetitive conduct.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Sabre offered a Global Distribution System that allowed travel agents to book airfare tickets. Sabre allegedly locked travel agents into its system, leaving them unable to provide fliers with alternatives or other more efficient connections to airlines like plaintiff's airline. Among other things, Sabre allegedly paid kickbacks to induce travel agents to use its systems, harming competition and further increasing income inequality. Plaintiff sued Sabre accusing it of anti-competitive conduct.
DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
Sabre denied the allegations.
Result
The jury rendered a verdict in favor of US Airways and awarded it $5,098,142 in damages.
