Facts

On Sept. 1, 2011, Lonnie Botts was riding his motorcycle when a truck, driven by Edwin Nickell, suddenly turned in front of him. To avoid hitting the truck, Botts had to lay his motorcycle to the ground. Botts then sued Nickell and Nickell's employers.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Botts claimed that Nickell suddenly pulled in front of him, forcing him to lay his bike down to avoid a collision.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
The defendants did not dispute liability, but contested damages.

Damages

Botts requested $180,000 in medical costs, $149,981 in past lost earnings, and $402,218 to $551,093 for future lost earnings.

Injuries

Botts suffered multiple bruises and abrasions, and required surgery on his right shoulder.

Result

The parties settled for $1 million.
