Facts
The plaintiffs were tenants in an apartment in rental property belonging to defendant Martha A. Jones for approximately six years until their eviction in April 2007. Martha Jones' son, defendant Carl Jones managed the property.
The plaintiffs alleged that the property was in substandard, inhabitable, and that the defendants failed and refused to make repairs to the property even though the plaintiffs made numerous requests for these repairs.
Additionally, the plaintiffs, who are Hispanic, maintained that defendants, who are African-American, harassed and treated them in a discriminatory manner solely because of their race, and also treated their children in a discriminatory manner.
Result
Judgment was entered for each of the four plaintiffs against defendant Martha Jones in the amount of $2,500. Judgment was entered for each of the four plaintiffs against defendant Carl Jones in the amount of $2,500. Punitive damages were awarded to each of the four plaintiffs against defendant Carl Jones in the amount of $5,000.
