Facts

Allen Sarkiszadeh and Susana Lacasia sued Jenya Kihan, Vartan Massihians, State of California, and the City of Los Angeles, in connection with an incident that occurred on Sept. 11, 2011.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs alleged that on Sept. 11, 2011, they were lawfully traveling northbound on Cahuenga Blvd. West on a motorcycle when suddenly, and without warning Kihan's vehicle struck them as they approached the intersection of Pilgrimage Bridge "T-intersection." Plaintiffs alleged that Kihan was attempting to negotiate a left turn on to Pilgrimage Bridge at the time. Plaintiffs were thrown from their motorcycle, causing serious injuries. Plaintiffs alleged that defendants, and each of them, were liable for their damages. Particularly, plaintiffs alleged that the municipal defendants were liable for negligence, and premises liability for maintaining dangerous condition of public property.

Plaintiffs asserted claims for dangerous condition of public property and negligence.

DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
The city denied plaintiffs' allegations, and asserted various affirmative defenses.

Injuries

Plaintiffs were thrown off of their motorcycle and sustained severe and permanent injuries and damages.

Result

The parties reached a $1 million settlement.
