Facts

Joseph Aouad and Alice Awad filed a lawsuit against Mary Aladzhadhyan and Arthur Hagop, in relation to a vehicular accident.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs alleged that on Sept. 1, 2010, Aouad was driving in Glendale with his wife, Alice Awad, sitting as a passenger in the vehicle. They were stopped at a red light, at which point Aladzhadhyan crashed into the back of plaintiffs' car. As a result, they argued that she drove negligently and should have decreased her speed as she drove up to the intersection. They also claimed Hagop, who owned the car, should be liable.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendants argued that because the collision was not severe, it did not bring about the claimed injuries or worsen former injuries. In addition, they argued that plaintiffs were asking for too much in damages.

Settlement Discussions

Aouad demanded $21,000, while Awad demanded $25,000. The defense offered $750 to each.

Damages

Aouad requested $7,565 in past medical costs, as well as pain and suffering damages. Awad asked for $8,760 in past medical costs, and future medical costs and pain and suffering damages.

Injuries

Both plaintiffs claimed neck and back injuries and received chiropractic care. Aouad claimed his pre-existing lumbar disc herniations became worse, and Awad's L fracture worsened.

Result

The jury found in favor of the defense.
