A group of female pharmaceutical sales employees brought a class action complaint against their employer Daiichi Sankyo Inc., a pharmaceutical manufacturer and seller, for gender discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Equal Pay Act and the California Fair Employment and Housing Act.
Contentions
PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs contended that Daiichi systematically paid female sales employees less than similarly situated male employees, denied them access to leadership positions and engaged in pregnancy discrimination.
Result
Pursuant to the settlement agreement reached between the parties, Daiichi agreed to pay eligible class members $8.2 million and retain an independent consultant to review applicable employment policies and practices.
