Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant allegedly failed to provide workers with required breaks and failed to pay them all wages owed. Plaintiff asserted causes of action for failure to provide meal periods, failure to authorize and permit rest periods, failure to timely pay wages, failure to provide accurate itemized employee wage statements, failure to pay overtime wages, failure to indemnify necessary employee expenditures, unlawful deductions, and violations of the Unfair Competition Law.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant demurred to plaintiff's action for failure to state a viable claim.
Result
The parties ultimately reached a settlement, subject to final approval by the court, which will involve a payment of up to $1.5 million on behalf of a class of more than 6,000 current and former employees.
