Facts

Donte Poole was riding his motorcycle when he collided with an SUV being driven by Juliana Picazo at an intersection. The accident left Poole paraplegic.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Poole filed suit against Picazo, alleging motor vehicle negligence. Poole contended that Picazo failed to stop at the intersection.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Picazo alleged that she stopped a stop sign for a minute before colliding with Poole.

Damages

Poole sought damages for past and future medical expenses, lost pay, as well as pain and suffering.

Result

The jury awarded Poole $14.5 million.
