Facts

Michael Leslie Productions Inc. d/b/a Ready Golf Centers filed a petition of writ of mandate against the Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners of the City of Los Angeles, concerning a vendor/concessionaire contractual dispute.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
P: Plaintiff had been successfully operating various concessions within the city for years and successfully won a new permanent contract to operate the Sepulveda Golf Complex. However, despite the Mayor's approval, the city allegedly continued to refuse to sign a Concession agreement with plaintiff. Plaintiff filed this petition for writ of mandate and declaratory and injunctive relief.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
The city denied the allegations and asserted various affirmative defenses.

Result

The trial court granted the petition for writ of mandate, compelling the city to execute the permanent contract. The city appealed and the Court of Appeal affirmed the trial court's ruling, and as well, ordered the city to pay attorney fees to the plaintiff for the trial and appeal. The parties reached a settlement of $375,000 for the fee award, and the city executed the permanent contract as per the Writ of Mandate.
