Jane Doe, a teenager who enrolled in a police Explorer program, filed suit against the City of Santa Maria, alleging that Santa Maria Police Officer Albert Covarrubias, 29, raped her repeatedly.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff alleged that from Dec. 31, 2011, officer Covarrubias raped Plaintiff, who was 17 at the time, several times. Plaintiff claimed that the officer threatened to kill her boyfriend and family if she declined to have sex with him.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant refused to admit any wrongdoing.
Result
The parties agreed to settle for $185,000.
