Facts
Plaintiff William Hunt, a former Orange County Sheriff's lieutenant who ran against Mike Carona in the campaign for Orange County Sheriff in 2006, was demoted three ranks and given patrol duties after losing the election. Hunt subsequently sued Defendants, seeking back pay and the restoration of his rank.
Result
The Court ordered the County of Orange to restore Hunt to his prior rank and assignment immediately, with full net back pay of $280,619, plus benefits, attorney's fees, and raises. The County was also fined $50,000.
