Facts
On June 29, 1993, plaintiff Phyllis Robinson, a 35-year-old African-American, was admitted to MLK/Drew Medical Center in Compton and was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy. She was placed under a general anesthetic for removal of the ectopic pregnancy. She awoke with an IV in her arm and hand. She claims that the IV in her arm was in the top portion of the forearm near the elbow. She claimed that she reported severe pain and numbness to every health care provider who saw her over the next two days. No complaints were listed in her medical records. She was discharged on July 1, 1993. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on medical negligence theory of recovery.
