Facts
The plaintiffs claimed that they were northbound on Prairie Avenue in Hawthorne intending to continue straight through the intersection of El Segundo. The plaintiff, Agnes Alonge, was driving the vehicle while her husband, Emmanuel Alonge, who is blind, was in the front seat. Agnes Alonge testified that she stopped for the red traffic signal controlling the intersection. She testified that the signal was a basic 3-phase type with no left turn arrow. She waited five seconds prior to entering the intersection to ensure no one attempted to quickly turn left in front of her. She saw no oncoming traffic and therefore she entered the intersection impacting the defendant's car which was southbound on Prairie intending to turn left onto eastbound El Segundo Boulevard. The defendant testified that he was southbound on Prairie Avenue intending to turn left onto eastbound El Segundo. He testified that the signal contained a left turn arrow phase. He stated that he began his left turn when the signal phase was showing the left turn arrow.
Injuries
Both plaintiffs sustained soft tissue injuries.
