Facts

The State of California filed suit against Chunghaw Picture Tubes Ltd., alleging that the Taiwanese company engaged in a conspiracy to fix prices on liquid-crystal displays that were sold to government agencies.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The plaintiff alleged that beginning in 1995, employees of several defendants began to meet and exchange competitively sensitive information about their products, such as pricing, shipping, customer demand, and production. The meetings eventually became a formal, collusive scheme involving bilateral and multilateral meetings. The state further alleged that the purpose of these meetings was to fix the prices of their products at supracompetitive levels, using customer allocations and output restrictions.

Result

The parties settled for $300,000.
