Facts
On Jan. 30, 2012, plaintiff, a minor, was injured while participating in an after-school basketball league at Rio Hondo Preparatory School, in Arcadia. He sued the school and Kare Youth League, the league organizer.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff contended that he was seriously injured when he was pushed by another player during basketball drills into the support post of the basket. He claimed that the unguarded, unpadded and unprotected post created a dangerous condition of property for which defendants were responsible.
Plaintiff asserted causes of action for premises liability and negligence.
DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
Defendants denied plaintiff's allegations and asserted various affirmative defenses.
Result
The parties settled for $150,000.
