Facts

Sherryle Barker filed a class action against Wendy's International LLC, Coastline Food Services Corp., and 256 Gift Card Inc., for allegedly refusing to redeem gift cards for cash value.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
California law requires issuers of gift cards to redeem for cash gift cards that have a value of less than $10 upon request. Defendants allegedly refused to honor such requests in violation of California's Gift Card Redemption Policy.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Wendy's denied any wrongdoing.

Result

Wendy's agreed to settle the dispute by honoring such requests. Wendy's also agreed to provide notice to its employees about their obligation to honor such requests.
