Howard Teachout sued the federal government pursuant to the Federal Tort Claims Act in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred on Nov. 16, 2012.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
A DEA agent was involved in a motor vehicle collision with plaintiff, resulting in significant injuries. Plaintiff sued the federal government for damages sustained as a result of the incident. Plaintiff and his wife, Vickie Teachout, asserted causes of action for negligence and motor vehicle negligence.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant denied the allegations and asserted various affirmative defenses.

Result

The parties reached a $500,000 settlement.
