In April 2003, plaintiff Megan Edwards was driving in Ione. Defendant Hugh Mitten ran a stop sign and struck the plaintiff's vehicle on the passenger's side. As a result, the plaintiff's vehicle landed on a residential lawn and hit a parked car. The plaintiff sued, claiming negligent operation of a vehicle.

The defendant admitted liability.
