Facts

In 1999, plaintiffs, 12 San Francisco police officers of Asian, Hispanic and White origin, took a promotional exam for the rank of Lieutenant. Plaintiffs claimed that every single African-American candidate on the list was promoted regardless of their rank. Plaintiffs alleged that the San Francisco Police Department discriminated against them on the basis of race and filed suit in 2003.

Result

The parties settled for $1.6 million.
