Facts
Manuel Loggins, a Marine sergeant, began taking his family on prayer walks at the field of San Clemente High School. One morning, while out on a prayer walk on the field, Loggins was shot to death by Sheriff's Deputy Darren Sandberg. Loggin's two daughters were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Loggins was unarmed at the time.
His family file the federal wrongful death lawsuit against Sandberg, the County of Orange, and several others.
Contentions
PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs contended that the decedent did not a pose a threat to the deputy in the early morning incident and that the deputy used excessive force.
Result
Orange County agreed to settle the matter for $4.4 million.
