Facts
Jiali Xie is a 36-year-old woman residing in San Francisco. On Dec. 10, 2015, Xie was walking home eastbound on Visitation Ave. While Xie was crossing Peabody St. in a marked crosswalk, defendant Jia Chen, who was driving a Toyota Tundra traveling eastbound on Visitation Ave., made a left turn into Peabody St. and struck plaintiff.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff contended that Chen failed to see plaintiff crossing the street and collided into her at full speed. The crash was caught on video by Xie's surveillance camera placed outside her home.
Xie contended that Chen failed to exercise the due care of a reasonable motorist by failing to observe Xie in the crosswalk and striking Xie.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Chen denied all material allegations.

Damages
Xie suffered damages in the form of past medical expenses and wage loss. Xie is an assistant vice president at Bank of America. Xie was unable to work for seven months after the accident causing her to lose out on salary and bonus payments.
Injuries
Xie became unconscious and was transported to the emergency room for treatment. Xie suffered post-concussion syndrome, muscle strain and contusion. Xie received chiropractic treatment. Xie also sought psychiatric treatment for stress and insomnia and was later diagnosed with acute stress disorder.
Result
The parties settled for $197,000.
