Plaintiff Lucy Thiry was the head of Human Resources for defendant Pet Partners. Plaintiff filed suit against defendant in relation to the termination of her employment with the company.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff contended that defendant wrongfully terminated her employment in violation of public policy.

Plaintiff filed a wrongful termination lawsuit based upon defendant's alleged violations of the California Family Rights Act, California Fair Employment and Housing Act, and California's whistleblower statute.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff was terminated by defendant on June 10, 2015, following a final written warning on Dec. 1, 2014. Defendant denied all of plaintiff's allegations and contended that plaintiff was an at-will employee and was terminated for repeatedly disclosing confidential information to employees.

Settlement Discussions

Defendant made a CCP 998 offer in the amount of $10,000 at the commencement of the litigation. It was rejected. Plaintiff made a CCP 998 offer in the amount of $32,499.99. It was rejected by defendants.

Damages

Plaintiff sought $500,000 in non-economic damages (emotional distress).
