Facts
Plaintiffs, water polo players at Kennedy High School in Anaheim filed suit against Anaheim Union High School District and various officials associated with the district alleging their water polo coach sexually abused them.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiffs contended that they were sexually abused by defendant Joshua Owens. They contended that the other defendants conducted a negligent investigation of Owen's behavior or negligently supervised Owens.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendants alleged that they did not know of Owen's abuse nor did their investigation reveal any wrongdoing once it was brought to their attention.
Result
The parties reached a settlement agreement. The school district agreed to pay $7.9 million on behalf of the individually named defendants.
