In September 1994, plaintiff John Rinaldi, a 50-year-old attorney, was employed by Blue Shield as a business planner. The defendant claimed the plaintiff's position was eliminated three months after he transferred from an attorney position to the business planner position. The plaintiff claimed that he objected to unethical and illegal actions by a senior vice president. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on breach of contract and wrongful termination theories of recovery.
