Facts

Dr. Mary Begole filed a qui tam lawsuit under the False Claims Act (FCA) against Dr. Ingrid Trenkle alleging that Trenkle, Begole's former employer, knowingly falsified medical records and submitted fraudulent claims in connection with treatments provided to Trenkle's patients. Begole was subsequently fired.

Result

A $1.3 million verdict was rendered in favor of the government and Begole, which consisted of $186,000 for the FCA claim; $900,000 for Begole's wrongful termination claim; and $270,000 for breach of contract.
