Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff worked for the Los Angeles Police Dept. as a police service representative. He joined the LAPD in 1982. Plaintiff, who is gay, was allegedly subjected to discrimination and harassment due to his sexual orientation and/or perceived sexual orientation. For example, certain officers called plaintiff a "child molester," "pedophile," and/or "faggot," among other things. Defendants allegedly subjected him to this toxic work environment beginning in 2008. Plaintiff reported the incidents of harassment to no avail. Plaintiff asserted claims for FEHA violations for discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and retaliation in violation of Labor Code Section 1102.5.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant denied the allegations and asserted various affirmative defenses.
Result
The parties reached a $700,000 settlement.
