Facts

Officer John Hargraves covered his name at an Occupy Oakland protest by placing tape over his nameplate. Lt. Clifford Wong knew of the violation but did not report the incident to internal affairs. Hargraves was suspended and Wong was demoted.

Result

The court ruled that Hargraves and Wong had engaged in "the most serious level of misconduct" and violated court-approved conduct standards for the city's police officer. The ramifications, including possible contempt proceedings, are still pending.
