Hemei Liu sued Garfield Medical Center and Dr. Magda Hassan, involving allegations of medical malpractice. Liu also sued Arrow International Inc.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
On June 13, 2013, plaintiff presented to defendant hospital to deliver her baby and was under the care of defendant doctors. The doctors allegedly inserted a catheter in plaintiff, which broke off when another doctor attempted to remove it. A fragment of the catheter remained dislodged in her spine. Plaintiff subsequently sued defendants, alleging causes of action for negligence, medical malpractice, strict product liability, and negligent product liability.
DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
Dr. Hassan moved for summary judgment, claiming that all care rendered to plaintiff was within the applicable standard of care.
Result
The court granted Dr. Hassan's motion. Liu reached a $40,000 settlement with Garfield Medical Center. Arrow settled for $20,000.
