Plaintiff Sandy Pedersen, a 35-year-old woman, was participating in a jet ski race, when she was struck by a fellow competitor on the left leg, causing a displaced fracture of the left lateral fibula just above the ankle. The plaintiff claimed defendant doctors James Glynn and Creed Wood advised her to apply ice directly to the injured area for up to 24 hours per day. Within 10 days of the injury, the plaintiff developed a large area of necrotic skin at the point of impact which required surgical debridement resulting in muscle loss and significant scarring. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant doctors based on medical negligence and malpractice theories recovery.
