Facts
On June 7, 2006, an automatic door struck John Mussumeli as he entered the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He suffered a broken hip as a result. Later, he underwent surgery and died from the surgical procedures. His daughter, Bettina Mussumeli, sued the United States of America for negligence and wrongful death.

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The plaintiff asserted that the defendant's negligence caused Mussumeli's broken hip, which directly and proximately caused Mussumeli's death.
Injuries
The plaintiff claimed that the defendant injured her father's hip and caused him to die.
Result
The parties reached a settlement amounting to $80,000.
