Plaintiff Facebook Inc. is a web-based social networking site. On June 28, 2007, Facebook filed suit against defendants Brian Fabian, Josh Raskin, Ming Wu, Istra Holdings Inc., Slickcash.com, and 1564476 Ontario Limited (all Canadian residents) for alleged violations of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, California Comprehensive Computer Data Access and Fraud Act, and for breach of contract.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Facebook contended that the defendants used a remote server to access Facebook in order to circumvent its security defenses and obtain user information. Facebook argued that the defendants used the improperly obtained user information for their business.
DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
The defendants denied all allegations.
Result
Facebook accepted a settlement in the amount of $500,000 from Istra Holdings Inc.
