Facts

Rolan Feld filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Westminster Music Limited and Essex Music International.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff alleged that his father, Marc Bolan, created certain musical compositions. Plaintiff further alleged that Bolan died in 1977, prior to the expiration of the initial copyright term of his compositions and that the renewed and extended copyright term of the compositions vested in plaintiff when the initial term expired. Plaintiff argued defendants' rights to the compositions expired at the end of the initial term and the defendants, thereafter, infringed the copyrights in the musical compositions owned by the plaintiff.

DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
Defendants denied the allegations of plaintiff's claims and argued that they owned certain musical compositions written by Bolan.

Result

The parties settled the lawsuit and agreed that plaintiff owned the copyright to a number of musical compositions written by Bolan. Based on the settlement, the parties stipulated to dismiss the action.

Other Information

According to plaintiff, they obtained all of the songs alleged, as well as payment of all of the revenues earned on those songs by defendants, during the damage period. FILING DATE: July 10, 2013.
