Facts

In 2005, the children of plaintiff Joel Toler were threatened. On April 7, 2005, Toler went to the district attorney's office to file a complaint and was unhappy with the district attorney's efforts on the matter. In June 2005, the plaintiff filed a small claims action against defendant District Attorney David Paulson. Paulson sought and was granted a temporary restraining order against Toler, which required Toler to stay at least 500 yards away from Paulson. In April 2006, Toler filed suit against Paulson and other related entities for allegedly violating his civil rights.

Result

A verdict was returned for plaintiff, awarding him $72,000 in compensatory damages and $18,000 in punitive damages.
