Facts

On April 25, 2005, City of Inglewood police officers arrested and charged Lamont Clark, an African American man, with possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. Later, he sued the city of Inglewood, and several Inglewood police officers claiming excessive force, false arrest, violations of his civil rights under Section 1983, and infliction of emotional distress.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Clark claimed that the police officers beat, detained, and arrested him in violation of his rights and targeted him due to his race.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
The defendants denied using excessive force and stated that they were responding to a call regarding an armed man.

Injuries

Clark claimed emotional distress.

Result

The jury found in favor of the defense.
