Facts
Plaintiff William J. Hunt, a former sheriff's lieutenant in Orange County, filed a suit claiming that he was wrongly demoted after running against former Sheriff Michael Carona. A day after Carona's reelection, Hunt was placed on administrative leave. He was later demoted from service as the sheriff's chief of police to a patrol officer. Hunt then chose to quit.
Result
The parties settled for $1.96 million.
