On Aug. 8, 2009, Martin Villegas was driving accompanied by his five year old son, Martin Villegas Jr. They were rear-ended by Lola Harris-Lasos. Villegas filed suit against Harris-Lasos, alleging that she was negligent in the operation of her vehicle by being inattentive while approaching stopped traffic.

Damages

Villegas sought $17,067 in past medical costs, $120,000 in future medical costs, and an unspecified amount for pain and suffering.
