Facts
Joaquina Ramirez worked seasonally for River Point Farms from 2005 to 2010. In 2010, Ramirez was fired after being blamed by a male supervisor for her husband, a fellow employee's, arrest when he attempted to kill her.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed suit on behalf of Ramirez against River Point, alleging sexual harassment and retaliation.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The EEOC alleged that Ramirez had been subject to verbal abuse and sexual advances from the supervisor, and that he consistently told female employees women were inferior. The EEOC further contended that the supervisor publicly encouraged Ramirez's husband to kill her. Although Ramirez was hired back, the EEOC argued, she was laid off before other seasonal workers as retaliation.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
River Point denied the allegations.
Result
The parties reached a settlement for $150,000.
