National Food Corp., a major egg supplier of the Pacific Northwest and Midwestern U.S. as well as East Asia, was headquartered in Everett, Wash., employed several laborers. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed suit against National Food Corp. on behalf of five workers, in relation to sexual harassment in the workplace.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The EEOC alleged that a supervisor at defendant's egg farm in Lind, Wash. asked for repeated sexual favors from a female laborer, who worked by herself in a henhouse. The superiors allegedly physically grabbed the worker and demanded sex from her on a weekly basis between 2003 and 2012. Further, the EEOC argued that when co-workers complained about the harassment to management, they were terminated or compelled to quit.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant denied the claims.
Result
Defendant agreed to pay $650,000, to issue policies to employees, institute changes, train management and hold managers accountable, and report complaints.
